ASA of PA 2003 Classification Adjustments
By Guy Demaio: ASA of PA Classification Director The Amateur Softball Association of Pennsylvania State Classification Committee met at the meeting of the ASA of PA Commissioners Council and evaluated legislative items submitted to alter the classification code and items governing the classification of teams in the ASA of PA for the 2003 season. The following classification adjustments for 2003 based on team performance and the classification policies and procedures as stated in the Code of the Amateur Softball Association Nationally, the Central Atlantic Region and the Amateur Softball Association of Pennsylvania and those items approved by the ASA of PA Council at the 2002 Spring meeting. Teams classified in accordance with these policies and procedures are not eligible for appeal until after having participated in a minimum of three sanctioned ASA tournaments at the assigned higher classification. Any appeal must be filed on the proper ASA or ASA of PA Classification Appeal Form and submitted to the ASA of PA State Classification Director with the approval of the respective District Commissioner. The State Classification Committee reviews and evaluates all appeals. The decision of the State Classification Committee is final. If the appeal is granted, the teams roster will be frozen for the balance of the playing year. If the team adds a player to their roster the appeal is nullified and the team is reclassified to the next higher classification level. Any current season mens or womens slow or fast pitch roster containing four (Two in modified pitch) or more members of any roster or combination of rosters from any previous season which was reclassified by the State, Regional or National Classification Committee must carry at least the level of classification assigned to the roster reclassified by the State, Regional or National Classification Committee. All classifications made by the State, Regional or National Classification Committee (teams or roster members thereof) shall remain the exclusive responsibility of the State Classification Committee. NO reversal or adjustment of the assigned classification to a lower level is permitted without the express written permission of the State Classification Committee. No local Deputy, Area, County or District Commissioner has the authority to adjust to a lower level or reverse any classification made by the state, regional or national classification committee.
